All Blacks halfback TJ Perenara scores the try of the tournament during big win over Namibia in Tokyo.
The try of the day. The try of the tournament? The best try in Rugby World Cups? A contender for the greatest try ever seen?
It takes something extraordinary to get much reaction out of All Blacks coach Steve Hansen, but the stunning score by TJ Perenara in New Zealand’s World Cup win over Namibia in Tokyo on Sunday certainly did the trick.
When Perenara’s 79th minute pearler was confirmed by TMO Rowan Kitt, a perfectly-timed camera pan to the Kiwi coaches box captured Hansen giving a ‘yahoo’ and an almighty first-pump, after witnessing such a sublime set of skills from his men being crowned in five points of glory.
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen cut a delighted figure when he saw his team’s sublime skill rewarded.
What was the All Blacks’ 11th and final try of their 71-9 victory will go down in history as one of the more brilliant scored by a man wearing the silver fern.
